    COMPONENTS USED

  • BASSWOOD

    basswood

Basswood is an American hardwood which grows in three regions: the Great Lakes, Appalachia, and the South. The best basswood comes from the Great Lakes area which is why all of our basswood comes from Canada and Wisconsin. As a hardwood, basswood has no resin to bleed through the finish as softwoods do. Basswood is one of the lightest hardwoods, so there aren't any sagging problems from excessive weight that come with other hardwoods. Lastly, basswood has virtually no warpage, that's why it is used in pianos for soundboards.

  • TENSION SCREW

The use of a tension screw system in every shutter panel assures that no matter where a shutter is shipped, it will never become too tight or too loose to operate properly. By a slight turn of the screw, the amount of louver tension is either increased or decreased. This allows our shutters to be shipped all over the world and remain problem free for decades to come.

  • STAPLES

We use extra long heavy gauge staples in the louver and tilt rods to insure that they cannot come out. Each staple is coated with a heat-frictionized coating. When the staple is injected into the wood, the glue on the staple is activated by the heat generated from injection, furthermore assuring the staples will hold.

  • HARDWOOD DOWEL CONSTRUCTION

Each and every shutter panel is assembled with 3/8 inch fluted hardwood dowels, glued on one-inch centers giving the shutter panel lock-tight durability. We use the longest dowels in the industry at 2". This feature allows us to manufacture panels up to 36" wide without using special stile sizes.

    SPECIAL FEATURES

  • ARCHES, RAKES, FANTOPS AND OTHER SHAPES

All specialty shapes are manufactured at the factory in Florida. Since no custom work is ever subcontracted out, the factory has full control over quality, thus assuring that your special windows will be manufactured to perfection. Wherever possible, all louvers are fully operable. No shape is too difficult to fabricate.

  • MORTISED FOR HINGES

All our shutters are mortised for both inner panel and hanging hinges which assures there will be no light gaps where panels are hinged to frames.

  • RABBETED PANELS

All panel connections are rabbeted preventing light leaks through the connected panels.

FINISHING

ACRYLIC LACQUER PAINTS

Our finishing process is a ten-step process where the raw wood is sanded when milled, sanded again after being cut into components, and sanded again before being undercoated. After a series of undercoats, our shutters are completely sanded by hand and machine with a fine grit paper. Then the shutters are painted and proof sanded with an extra-fine grit. Then the final, very thin, series of top-coats are applied. The shutters are then ready for final inspection.

This process which includes many thin coats of Acrylic lacquer and more than five sanding steps between coats is the same technique used to finish fine furniture. The result is one of the smoothest finishes available in the shutter industry.
